Desert X AlUla 2022
An international contemporary art exhibition that activates desert locations through site-specific installations by acclaimed international artists.
“Desert X AlUla” is a recurring, site-responsive, international art exhibition that foresees suggestive intervention of land art in AlUla, a globally significant ancient desert region in Saudi Arabia.
This year’s exhibition is centred on the concept of ‘Sarab’ translated as mirage, exploring how the concepts of mirage and the oasis are intrinsic to desert history and culture and have taken on complex worldwide significance over time. Curated by Reem Fadda, Raneem Farsi and Neville Wakefield, the exhibition features newly commissioned works by 15 artists.
Desert X is produced by The Desert Biennial, a not-for-profit charitable organisation founded in California.
