CHOIJEONGHWA: Blooming Matrix

The exhibition “MMCA Hyundai Motor Series 2018: CHOIJEONGHWA – Blooming Matrix” features different installation works by artist CHOIJEONGHWA, whose practice is characterised by the inclusion of every day objects as part of the artworks. The artist, in fact, is used to reinvent ordinary and inexpensive consumables such as a plastic baskets, piggy banks, brooms, and balloons, demolishing the boundaries between high art and popular culture. By his practice of granting a new meaning to abandoned objects, CHOIJEONGHWA has contributed to further the research in the field of Korean contemporary art since the 1990s. Between the exhibited pieces, the installation “Dandelion” is the result of a collaborative project begun in March 2018, consisting in the assemblage of old dishes from people’s homes. The exhibition is part of MMCA Hyundai Motor Series 2018.
