Yun Suknam Solo Show
Yun has been working assiduously as a representative Asian feminist artist for the past 30 years. She actively participated in feminist culture activities in an aim towards equality amongst sexes. This exhibition is an opportunity to see Pink Room, one of Yun Suknam’s representative works. Pink Room is an installation work that the artist has started in 1996, and is constantly evolving as the artist uses different materials. Yun uses pink, a stereotypical ‘girly’ color, to ironically express the prejudice against women. This exhibition is also a chance to see Yun’s new type of painting, made of hanji (traditional Korean paper) through Korean traditional painting Minhwa technique. This exhibition aims to unfold Yun’s stories, in particular, focused on maternal instinct and strength; artist showed uneasy inner world of women, reinstated oppressed women, and depicted the beauty of women who attempted to be themselves, through her work
