Everyday Legend

China in the 20th century has witnessed dramatic and revolutionary changes. In the wake of the economic rise, the imperative of passing on the cultural heritage has come to the fore. To probe into, reflect upon and revive ‘the traditional’ that is constantly becoming ‘the historical’, contemporary art once again pioneers the role to respond visually through various perspectives.

Back in 2014, the New Century Art Foundation launched this research-based curatorial project. During the past three years, a series of fieldworks, artist studio visits, workshops and seminars, and in particular, the in-depth dialogues and discussions between curators, artists and scholars have not only extended the dimension of the curatorial framework of the project but also further supported the artistic practices. The curators, in collaboration with nearly 20 influential contemporary Chinese artists, now present the research output and their artistic thinking in the form of a contemporary art exhibition – Everyday Legend.
