Chen Sai Hua Kuan & Wang Ruobing: Bone by Just Before the Present Time
iPreciation announces ‘gone by just before the present time’ by Chen Sai Hua Kuan and Wang Ruobing. This exhibition will feature the duo’s use of optical illusions to bring the abstract sense of memory of a place into visual perception. The exhibition intends to interact with the viewers when they walk pass it, functioning through deceptive and misleading optical illusions where the eye and brain make unconscious interferences.
Chen Sai Hua Kuan is contemporary Singaporean artist who works across a vast variety of media and techniques. He often explores the idea of space and time in relation to architectural concerns and his work is often subversively and whimsically assembled and deconstructed out of everyday objects. Hence, his practice is uniquely open. His executions are often laborious, technical, mechanical and life threatening. Sai graduated from Lasalle College of the Arts in 1997 and from Slade School of Fine Art, University College London in 2007 with a Master in Fine Arts.
Wang Ruobing is also a Singaporean artist who works with a variety of media. Her works challenge and explore the ways of seeing and the process of acquiring knowledge. She also works with a diverse range of methods and approaches in the presentation of her work in her attempts to question our understanding and perception of the world. Wang graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1997 and went on to study at Lasalle College of the Arts and University of London in 1997 and 2001 respectively. She received her Doctorate degree in Philosophy of Fine Art from Oxford University in 2010 on the Rushkin, and Lamb and Flag scholarships. She is now lecturer at Lasalle College of the Arts, and a practicing artist and curator.
