Hopes & Dialogues in Rumah Kijang Mizuma
The exhibition features new works by both Indonesian and Japanese artists expressing the influence which the experiences of Yogyakarta and Rumah Kijang Mizuma had on their views on art, artistic production and life.
Rumah Kijang Mizuma is a co-working and artist residency space founded by Executive Director of Mizuma Galleries, Sueo Mizuma, curator Hermanto Soerjanto, and artist Angki Purbandono in 2014. The space is set in the southern part of the city of Yogyakarta and functions as a cultural exchange area for artists; over the years, it has hosted 22 artists in residency between Japanese and Indonesian ones. In fact, the word “kijang” in Indonesian means “deer”, but here it stands for Kerja sama Indonesia Jepang (Cooperation between Indonesia and Japan), as conceived by artist Agan Harahap with the aim to promote cultural exchange between the two countries.
