Sabine Reindel: Mind the Gap
Sabine Reindel’s first international solo show MIND THE GAP, concentrates on small sized cityscapes. In addition to working with oil Reindel is exploring mixed media in particular the use of gold leaf. Reindel has left Germany in the 1990ies to live and work as an attorney in the Middle East. Like many foreigners to a new country her cityscapes are created out of a desire to understand the new environment. While painting and drawing Reindel familiarizes herself with her new surroundings, first the United Arab Emirates, later San Francisco and New York, and presently Singapore. Reindel has received a classical training in drawing and painting, which is reflected in her work. Her new work depicts well known Singapore sights that are extracted from their environment and positioned onto a flat, colorful background. Gold accents are used as a means for accentuation and are also a bridge to her own cultural Bavarian background, which is rich with opulent gold leaf and stucco covered Baroque churches. Her work is small and intimate. Like her, the viewer has to take a close look to catch every detail.
