STEPS – A Celebration of Painting

6A Taller i Galeria debuts at Art Palma Brunch 2025 with Steps, an exhibition uniting six Spanish artists through diverse yet interconnected painting styles.

As a new member of the Art Palma Contemporani Association, 6A TALLER I GALERIA marks its debut at ART PALMA BRUNCH 2025 with an exhibition that places painting at the heart of contemporary artistic dialogue. Titled “STEPS,” this show brings together six Spanish artists—Pablo Castañeda, Sofía González, Víctor González, Maria José Gallardo, José Carlos Naranjo, and Javier Parrilla—in a collective project where their distinct visual languages find common ground.

At first glance, their approaches might seem vastly different. Some navigate the realm of abstraction, exploring the interplay of light, color, and space, while others embrace figuration, reconstructing reality through cultural references, iconography, and symbolism. What unites them, however, is an unwavering dedication to painting as a medium—its materiality, its history, and its ability to evoke emotion and thought.

Javier Parrilla’s work delves into the layers of artistic tradition, blending iconographic codes with ambiguous compositions that challenge perception. Víctor González transports the viewer into dreamlike, atmospheric spaces, where color and depth create a sense of boundless abstraction. Sofía González, on the other hand, engages with structure and repetition, using familiar objects to question spatial relationships and composition. Maria José Gallardo reinterprets historical and cultural imagery, often drawing from Baroque influences to explore themes of power and visual manipulation. Pablo Castañeda shifts between experimentation and tradition, constructing scenes where human figures, or their absence, play a central role in redefining pictorial space. Meanwhile, José Carlos Naranjo captures fleeting urban moments, using a loose, photographic approach to depict anonymous figures in nocturnal settings, illuminated by flashes of acid-toned light.

Despite these contrasts, the exhibition creates a seamless conversation between their works, proving that painting remains as vital and dynamic as ever. Through a meticulous balance of technique, experimentation, and concept, “STEPS” blurs the boundaries between seemingly opposing artistic perspectives, allowing them to converge into a unified yet richly diverse vision.

Curated in collaboration with Barrera Baldán Galería (Sevilla), this exhibition is not just a showcase of individual talent but an exploration of painting as a language that continues to evolve, surprise, and provoke. “STEPS” invites visitors to engage with this dialogue, to lose themselves in the textures, forms, and ideas that make each work unique, yet deeply connected.
