Pixy Liao: Your Gaze Belongs to Me
Fotografiska will host the exhibition “Your Gaze Belongs to Me” by the photographer Pixy Liao. A series of personal and intimate photographs that explore sex, dominance, and powerful women changing the views on heterosexual relationships. For 15 years, Pixy Liao and her boyfriend/muse Moro (respectively Japanese and Chinese), a Shanghai-based musician she met in college, have been exploring and pushing the boundaries of what a relationship is and the expected gender roles in a heterosexual couple. The exhibition, which contains more than one hundred images, focuses on portraying the dynamic of their relationship and tries to transform conventional socio-cultural ideas of gender constructions and questions of nationality in a globalized world. The project is an ongoing, long-term experiment with staged photographs.
