Julian Charrière: A Thousand Worlds
Julian Charrière (born 1987 in Morges, Switzerland) is a Berlin-based French-Swiss artist whose work bridges environmental research and cultural history. He combines performances, sculptures and photography, often deriving projects from field research at remote locations with precise geophysical identities—such as volcanoes, ice fields, and radioactive sites.
Throughout his practice, he explores post-romantic constructions of “nature” and stages the tension between deep or geological timescales and those relating to humans. Charrière also reflects on the myth of exploration and the associated objects in a globalised age. By deploying seemingly timeless imagery for contemporary purposes, his interventions at the intersection of mysticism and materiality articulate our disrupted relationship to space and time today.
