Thomas Huber
Monica De Cardenas presents an exhibition of recent works by Thomas Huber at the gallery in Zuoz.
Swiss artist Thomas Huber is known for his conceptual paintings of interiors and imaginary architecture. Recently, he returns to the landscapes of his youth, living near Cannobio on Lago Maggiore, where the lake and surrounding mountains inspire his new works.
The exhibition features paintings that explore variations of the same landscape—water, sky, mountains, and light—captured at different times and seasons. Moving away from architectural illusions, Huber emphasizes wide-open spaces and the presence of the lake. Many works are titled with their date of creation, reflecting his precise approach.
Huber, born in Zurich, studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel, the Royal College of Art in London, and the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. He gains international recognition in 1984 with the group show “Von hier aus” in Düsseldorf. His works are shown worldwide, including at “Centre Pompidou,” Paris; “Kunsthaus,” Zurich; “Fundación Joan Miró,” Barcelona; “MAMCO,” Geneva; and “MASI,” Lugano.
He receives several awards, including the “Kiefer Hablitzel Prize,” the “Meret Oppenheim Prize,” and his project “Dawn / Dusk” is selected for the Art Unlimited section of Art Basel in 2023.
