Christian Marclay: Translating
MOT Tokio presents Christian Marclay first major show in Tokyo, an exhibition that brings together visuals and music.
Christian Marclay’s presents his first large-scale exhibition in Japan at MOT – Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.
In “Translating”, Marclay explores the concept of synesthesia through an eclectic approach. He aims to examine sounds for how they look and not just for how they sound.
For the artist, “translating” means to find a common ground between his dual interests of art and music, through sampling and repeating visual and audio formats to arrange a composition. Marclay follows a double-layered process, in which sounds can create images and, at the same time, images give the emotional suggestions to create new sounds. The user becomes both a listener and a viewer of an open-ended experience.
As used by Kandinsky, Christian Marclay creates a set of graphic scores to be played by Japanese musicians in a series of events that will take place during the exhibition.
