Manifeste ORLAN. Corps et sculptures

Les Abattoirs, Musée - Frac Occitanie Toulouse presents a major exhibition by the artist ORLAN. For the first time, sculpture is the leitmotif: from "Corps-Sculptures" photographs, performances, surgeries, folding sculptures to AI and robotics.

les Abattoirs (FRAC Midi-Pyrénées), 76 allées Charles-de-Fitte

ORLAN is a key figure in the art of the second half of the 20th and 21st century. She has played a fundamental role in the history of feminist and performance art. Throughout her career, ORLAN has stepped out of the frame and made her body the medium, the raw material and the visual medium of her work. She is a pioneering artist, as she was one of the first artists to use scientific and medical techniques such as surgery and biotechnology. She never stops appealing to technological innovation to imagine humanity in all its dimensions.

The exhibition at Les Abattoirs brings together around one hundred works and documents produced from the 1960s to the present day, from a wide range of media, including sculptures, robots, photographs, videos, performances, etc. The exhibition presents iconic and lesser-known works from public and private collections as well as from the artist’s studio, complemented by historical archives.
