ARACATACA

ARACATACA is an editorial and performative project, reflecting on the role of the art curator and the precariousness with which it is characterised nowadays, due to the contemporary economic situation. This figure, alongside others, often does not receive proper recognition for both the intellectual and practical work undertaken.

The project aims to interrogate the current economic picture in relation to the cultural industry’s condition through a publication and an exhibition. The first consists of an analysis of the legal and sociological conditions which curators have to deal with nowadays. The research resulted in the creation of a document to fill in and attach to various kinds of contracts used in the profession to clarify all the aspects of a curators’ work. The exhibition puts into practice these premises: the artist Fabrizio Vatieri, reflects on these issues through the performance “Buchi nell’acqua”, which explores the experience of failure. During the exhibition, the publication is distributed for free.

ARACATACA is the final project of the curatorship class CAMPO17, promoted by the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo along with Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT.
