Carol Rama: Capitolo 1 – Dorina e gli altri
An original creator of an extensive personal iconography, Carol Rama produced both figurative and abstract works, using materials and supports that ranged from the traditional to the entirely unconventional. This coherent inconsistency, together with the close relationship between her lived experience and her art, and her engagement with themes such as psychological distress, eroticism and illness, establishes Rama as one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century. Her influence continues to resonate strongly today, extending to younger generations of artists.
The first chapter, Dorina e gli altri, brings together a selection of important figurative watercolours on paper from the artist’s early years, alongside works incorporating rubber, part of her abstract, mixed-media experimentation from the 1970s onwards.
