Enrico David: Domani torno
The Castello di Rivoli presents “Domani torno”, a retrospective of Enrico David (Ancona, 1966), curated by Marianna Vecellio. The exhibition explores David’s practice across painting, textiles, drawing, sculpture, and immersive installations, examining the inner life of contemporary humans. Designed for the Manica Lunga, the display alternates figuration and abstraction, focusing on the body as a metaphor for transformation. Works trace David’s journey from Ancona to London in 1986, highlighting his search for a linguistic space to exist. Drawing plays a central role, uniting media and reflecting his view that “the space of dream and the space of drawing are infinite”. Many pieces respond to personal trauma, transforming pain into creative redemption. Installations such as “Madreperlage” (2003), “Absuction Cardigan” (2009), and “Ultra Paste” (2007) combine memory, popular culture, and theatricality, while later sculptures, including “Life Sentences” (2014) and “Trenches to Reason” (2021), explore the face as a site of emotion. The exhibition includes drawings, new paintings, tapestries, embroidered canvases, and the series of miniature theatrical scenes, reflecting on identity, gender, and self-perception. “Untitled” (2024–2025) premieres in Italy, highlighting David’s mature sculptural experimentation.
