Francesco Cavaliere: Abyss Gazer
“Abyss Gazer, il guardatore dell’abisso” is a solo exhibition by Francesco Cavaliere, curated by Sergey Kantsedal. For the first time in Turin, “Abyss Gazer, il guardatore dell’abisso” brings together a complete body of blown glass sculptures evoking deep-sea animals and plants. Emerging from a process of fantastical writing, which lies at the heart of Cavaliere’s research, these abyssal creatures embody imaginary figures who act as guardians of an unknown and mysterious world. Displayed within the spaces of Barriera as if on watch, they will later come to life in a musical performance during the finissage. This exhibition, a distinctive hybrid in Cavaliere’s practice, weaves together writing, poetry, music, sound, and voice, often collaborating with musicians, artisans, and set designers. Marking a significant milestone in the artist’s journey, the exhibition showcases Cavaliere’s continuous challenge to traditional boundaries and genres.
The exhibition is presented on the occasion of Colazione by COLLI, invited by Barriera. Created in collaboration with XING, this project is realised as part of the Italian Council (2023).
