Giorgio de Chirico: Enigma Contemporaneo
Giorgio de Chirico. Enigma Contemporaneo concludes the programme celebrating Mazzoleni’s 40th anniversary, bringing the work of Giorgio de Chirico into dialogue with artists from different generations who have reinterpreted his visual language and distinctive motifs from the 1930s to the present day. The exhibition explores the idea of a “continuous metaphysics”, tracing how de Chirico’s imagery and thought continue to resonate across different artistic practices.
The exhibition brings together works by Alberto Savinio, Felice Casorati, Luciano Fabro, Giulio Paolini, Salvo, Wifredo Lam, Nunzio, Salvatore Astore, Iran do Espírito Santo, Marinella Senatore, Andrea Francolino, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Massimo Vitali. Through painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and textile works, the exhibition examines recurring themes in de Chirico’s practice, including mythology, classical tradition, metamorphosis, space, landscape and the representation of the human figure. New works created for the occasion and site-specific installations further develop these connections, highlighting the continuing relevance of de Chirico’s visual imagination and its capacity to generate new interpretations of the contemporary world.
