Giuseppe Caccavale: L’intruso. Nell’oltretempo

Nell’Oltretempo is a project in which Giuseppe Caccavale takes on the role of an intruso within QUINTA RISONANZA, establishing a dialogue with the GAM’s collection.

Together with curators Chiara Bertola and Virginia Lupo, the artist explored the museum’s extensive storage collections, selecting a group of plaster casts and several paintings depicting mountain landscapes, particularly the peaks that shape the horizon around Turin. The selection reflects a search for formal, iconographic and poetic correspondences, with the plaster casts and mountain paintings entering into dialogue with Caccavale’s artistic language.

Conceived for the Spazio del Contemporaneo, the intervention unfolds directly across the walls through spolvero, a transfer technique that uses powder and contact to reproduce written forms. The resulting work evokes both the fragility and the persistence of the trace, enveloping the exhibition space and creating an environment in which the selected works from the museum’s collection are displayed. As with many of Caccavale’s projects, Nell’Oltretempo emerges from a collective process, involving students from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti in Turin in the realisation of the work.
