Jeff Wall: Photographs
Le Gallerie d’Italia – Torino presents “Jeff Wall. Photographs”, curated by David Campany. The exhibition offers an extensive overview of Jeff Wall’s work (Vancouver, 1946), one of the most influential photographic artists of our time. For over four decades, Wall has navigated between spectacular staging and documentary observation, creating large-scale images that explore contemporary society in all its complexity. Familiar yet unsettling, his photographs transform everyday moments into strange, dreamlike scenes, raising the ordinary to the level of the extraordinary.
Committed to depicting daily life, Wall addresses key social and political issues—nature, war, gender, race, and class—revealing how these forces shape human experience. His work draws from painting, literature, and cinema, especially Italian Neorealism, blending mundane reality with drama. The exhibition presents a wide selection of works from the late 1980s to the most recent, tracing the layered development of his artistic language.
Curator David Campany, writer and Creative Director of New York’s International Center of Photography, has collaborated with Wall for nearly twenty years. This exhibition marks the culmination of his long-standing engagement with the artist’s oeuvre.
