Juul Kraijer: Ephemera
Through an anthology of video works by Dutch visual artist Juul Kraijer, the exhibition invites viewers to explore the boundaries between reality and the ethereal, creating a dialogue between physical and metaphysical dimensions.
Drawing from mythology and surrealism, Kraijer presents a parallel world where humans and nature are interconnected, challenging the limits of existence between the tangible and the transcendent. The exhibition immerses the public in a poetic atmosphere that highlights an immaterial beauty beyond ordinary perception, encouraging contemplation of the relationships that shape reality.
In collaboration with Monica De Cardenas, Recontemporary hosts Kraijer’s first solo video exhibition during Artissima, aiming to strengthen connections with collectors and art professionals. “Ephemera” aligns with the Foundation’s goals of promoting internationally-minded projects that engage art enthusiasts.
The exhibition includes an olfactory experience inspired by Kraijer’s universe, developed with renowned Italian perfumer Tonatto. This sensory element enhances the themes of metamorphosis and interconnection, adding depth to the contemplative experience. The fragrance serves as a bridge between vision and perception, creating an immersive atmosphere.
The exhibition is made possible with support from the Mondriaan Fund, which covers the artist’s travel expenses for “Ephemera”.
