Ketty La Rocca: Se io fotovivo. Opere 1967-1975
The solo exhibition dedicated to Ketty La Rocca at CAMERA - Centro Italiano per la Fotografia in Turin investigates in particular the relationship between photography and words, between gesture and language.
The exhibition “Ketty La Rocca: Se io fotovivo. Opere 1967-1975” explores for the first time the relationship between Ketty La Rocca and photography in order to highlight the crucial role this medium played in her way of representing the body and gestures and in documenting her performative activity. Among her themes, the role of women within mass communication and an explicit critique of capitalism and the influence the Church has within modern society emerge significantly. To the stereotypical imagery of women’s publishing that had marked her early research, La Rocca also adds to her repertoire historical images, such as those taken from the Alinari archives, or scientific ones, as in the case of Craniologie, where she employs X-rays of the skull, superimposed on photographs of hands or handwritten phrases.
