Marisa Merz: La danza delle ore

Marisa Merz: La danza delle ore is a joint exhibition organised by Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Fondazione Merz and GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino to mark the centenary of Marisa Merz’s birth. Curated by Chiara Bertola, Sébastien Delot, Francesco Manacorda, Beatrice Merz, Chiara Parisi and Marianna Vecellio, the project unfolds across three venues from 29 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, bringing together a significant selection of works, including previously unseen pieces, that trace the artist’s practice and lasting influence.

The three parts of the exhibition offer different perspectives on Merz’s work, exploring the relationship between creative process, materials and everyday life. Particular attention is given to the home as a space for artistic experimentation, where domestic activities and gestures become part of an ongoing creative process, as well as to the artist’s approach to space as both a physical environment and a metaphysical dimension. These themes reflect the distinctive nature of Merz’s practice, in which art and life remain closely connected and forms, materials and ideas are continually transformed.

Rather than presenting her work as a closed or definitive body of production, the exhibition highlights its open-ended character and the constant evolution that marked Merz’s artistic journey. Through the collaboration between the three institutions, the project offers an opportunity to reconsider her contribution to contemporary art and to explore the continuing relevance of an oeuvre that remains a source of inspiration and renewed artistic research.
