Marisa Merz: La danza delle ore
Marisa Merz: La danza delle ore is a joint exhibition organised by Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Fondazione Merz and GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino to mark the centenary of Marisa Merz’s birth. Curated by Chiara Bertola, Sébastien Delot, Francesco Manacorda, Beatrice Merz, Chiara Parisi and Marianna Vecellio, the project unfolds across three venues from 29 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, bringing together a significant selection of works, including previously unseen pieces, that trace the artist’s practice and lasting influence.
The exhibition at Castello di Rivoli offers an opportunity to reconstruct and present once again to the public E il naufragar m’è dolce in questo mare, a major installation that Marisa Merz first exhibited in 1980 at Tucci Russo gallery in Turin, before creating a second version for the 39th Venice Biennale of Visual Arts later that year. Installed in the Manica Lunga on the Castello di Rivoli’s third floor, the work forms the exhibition’s focal point, from which a series of themes and lines of enquiry unfold. These include the pursuit of the revelation of the invisible and the artist’s ability to give visual form to metaphysical visions, revealing reality beyond the limits of sensory perception. The exhibition also invites a group of women artists whose practices and visions resonate with aspects of Merz’s work to contribute to an expanded retrospective.
