Alice in Doomedland
Organised by Fondation Valmont, the exhibition is the sixth exhibition by the foundation in Venice
For its sixth thematic exhibition in Venice, Fondation Valmont invited four contemporary artists Didier Guillon, Isao and Stephanie Blake, Silvano Rubino to present their own version of the story of “Alice in Wonderland”, a mirrored fairy tale with infinite facets, whose imaginary goes beyond epochs, keeping intact all its current character.
Since a fairy tale is always told in the present, the artists are allowed to deal with topical contemporary issues. From this reinterpretation a new tale (or a renewed tale) originates: “Alice in Doomedland”. The evocative power of the garden of wonders is transformed into an uncompromising look at today’s world. The re-enchantment of everyday life through art invites us to ask ourselves this question and then try to propose answers.
