Andrea Morucchio: Venezia Anno Zero
The video project by Andrea Morucchio documents life and atmospheres in Venice during the lockdown
The video project “Venezia Anno Zero” by Andrea Morucchio portrays the city of Venice during the lockdown caused by the Covid pandemic. 30 hours of footage recorded from March 17 to May 17, 2020, highlight the metaphysical beauty of the lagoon when all the crowding and activities related to the exploitation of mass tourism stopped.
The recorded images and sounds describe the quiet atmosphere of the city, the result of an epochal event on an
international scale. The title of the project recalls Rossellini’s movie “Germania Anno Zero”, offering a portrait of the residual inhabitants of Venice and a wish for the future to start a virtuous path of reversing Venice’s self-destructive trend.
The film is projected at the cinema space of Bottega Cini through November 2, 2020.
“Venezia Anno Zero” won the prize of the 17th edition of the Francesco Pasinetti Video Competition in the Venezia una città / Venice a city section. A selection of images from the film became part of Ocean Space’s archive, while the video is also the starting point for a complex immersive installation, which will be presented during the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021.
