Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is the exhibition presented at Palazzo Tiepolo Passi, exploring the encounter between man and nature featuring the delicate works by contemporary artists Judi Harvest and the monumental sculptures by Quentin Garel reflecting on the destiny of humankind.

Quentin Garel’s works present man as the Beast in a double meaning: the first is connected to ancestral familiarity that links him to other species. The second aspect focuses on lost of humanity in relation to other living creatures, provoked by personal interests and leading to self-destruction.

The works by Judi Harvest adopt cooperation and productive relationship characterizing kingdom of bees to embody the Beauty of Nature. The artist interprets bees as nature’s messengers. The life of bees, of nature and of our own is due to their unceasing work.

The exhibition displaces in a Y-shaped space that is functional to the message: in the first two rooms the main themes are introduced and then, in the two separate rooms one on the left and the other on the right side, are represented the different consequences, positive and negative, expected by the conversation between man and nature.

The show features also hundreds of different seeds made by Murano glass using three different production techniques and reminiscences of fairy tale forests in Harvest’s honey jars installation, carrying symbolic significance of beauty and hope in the future.

The exhibition reflects on the future of human race through multiple levels of interpretations to be understandable and enjoyable for any audience.
