Bricks and Grids
Curator: Miriam Bettin
Artists: Zoila Andrea Coc-Chang, Modou Dieng Yacine
As part of the Venice Architecture Biennale, 193 Gallery presents a duo exhibition featuring new works by Zoila Andrea Coc-Chang and Modou Dieng Yacine, curated by Miriam Bettin.
The architectural elements of bricks and grids can be understood as structures or patterns, both stylistically and metaphorically. While Modou Dieng Yacine explores traces of Black history in Venice through his photographic-based paintings of social and urban environments, Zoila Andrea Coc-Chang deconstructs economic systems of power through sculptural weavings made from dried fruits, food waste, and industrial materials. Together, they offer portraits of transcontinental networks, communities, and kinships within the diaspora.
