Canicula
Fondazione In Between Art Film presents “Canicula”, a group exhibition curated by Alessandro Rabottini and Leonardo Bigazzi. The exhibition is the third and final chapter of the “Trilogy of Uncertainties”, a series initiated by the Fondazione in which the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto is transformed each time into a form of cinematic architecture. Following “Penumbra” (2022) and “Nebula” (2024), “Canicula” continues the trilogy’s exploration of atmospheric phenomena as metaphors for the human condition.
The exhibition premieres eight new site-specific video installations commissioned from Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti, Roman Khimei and Yarema Malashchuk, Janis Rafa, P. Staff, Wang Tuo, Yuyan Wang, and Maya Watanabe. Inspired by extreme light and heat as both material and metaphorical conditions, the exhibition examines states in which matter, people and ideas are placed under pressure. Across the works, image overload, information distortion, memory saturation, abuses of power and oppressive temperatures are addressed as conditions that test the reliability of perception and interpretations of reality. The exhibition design is developed by Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli and his studio 2050+, while a cross-disciplinary symposium curated by Bianca Stoppani expands the conversations around the artists’ practices.
