Chu Teh-Chun: In Nebula
The retrospective exhibition “In Nebula” featuring the works of Chu Teh-Chun (1920–2014) is hosted in collaboration with Fondazione Giorgio Cini on Isola San Giorgio Maggiore, the exhibition, curated by Matthieu Poirier, showcases the significant contributions of the Franco-Chinese abstract painter.
With loans from prestigious institutions such as the Musée d’art moderne de Paris, the exhibition explores Chu’s emblematic paintings from 1955 onward, challenging the traditional retrospective format by starting with recent large works and moving backward in time. The scenography, inspired by Chu’s pictorial nebula, aims to offer a fresh perspective on his oeuvre, moving beyond the East-West duality to appreciate the exceptional aesthetic singularity of his universe, rich in historical resonances. Accompanying the exhibition is a new monograph published by Éditions Gallimard, Paris, featuring a text by Matthieu Poirier.
