Da Donatello a Alessandro Vittoria, 1450-1600
A major exhibition tracing 150 years of sculpture in the Republic of Venice.
The first major Venetian exhibition dedicated to Venetian sculpture curated by Toto Bergamo Rossi, director of Venetian Heritage, and Claudia Cremonini, director of the Giorgio Franchetti Gallery at Ca’ d’Oro.
The exhibition, set up on the piano nobile of the palazzo, will focus on the dialogue between a number of works by masters who operated in Venice and in the territories of the Republic between the 15th and 17th centuries, such as Donatello, Antonio Rizzo, Pietro, Tullio and Antonio Lombardo through to Jacopo Sansovino and Alessandro Vittoria, proposing, in addition to works already known to the general public, some sculptures that have never been shown in a museum context. The exhibition aims to provide visitors with a variety of interpretations of sculptural technique, highlighting the wealth of materials, expressive potential and aesthetic variations within the historical and artistic context of Venice.
The exhibition will focus on the most significant moments of a much broader history, that of Venetian sculptural production from the early Renaissance to late Mannerism, with the intention of highlighting the complexity of the stylistic and iconographic contributions that converged on Venice in years of great renewal for local figurative culture.
