Danny Leyland: The Map Maker’s Colours

Mare Karina, 3200 Campo de le Gate

Mare Karina presents “The Map Maker’s Colours”, the first exhibition in Italy by British artist Danny Leyland (b. 1994, Oxford). Featuring new paintings created in 2025, the works reflect Leyland’s exploration of material cultures, archaeology, and studies on decolonising museums. Inspired by Elizabeth Bishop’s 1934 poem “The Map”, the exhibition examines shifting meanings of objects shaped by human interaction and cultural context. Leyland’s paintings navigate themes of memory, ritual, and representation, offering a nuanced meditation on how meaning is inscribed into objects, spaces, and landscapes.
