Dialogo

FAI - Negozio Olivetti, Piazza San Marco

During 57th Venice Biennale and as tribute to Ettore Sottsass in the year in which recurs the centenary of his birth, FAI – Negozio Olivetti with the architect and curator Charles Zana present this Dialogue between Sottsass and the space projected by Carlo Scarpa, Olivetti Boutique, where the exhibition takes place.

The boutique was invented in 1957 as the Ceramics by Sottsass here on view, most of them conceived for the Sestante Gallery from 1957 to 1970.

The exhibitions gives an insight into Sottsass’ essence and vocabulary, synthesis of years of research on form, color and matter.
The pieces on show belonging to ten different collections, were developed in a decade and they feature various techniques from raw lava to tantra pieces close to pop art, from terra cota to enamel, from smooth to rough, revealing the versatility of the Italian designer.

This retrospective is the occasion to question on limits between art and design but also an opportunity to rediscover a high place of Venetian architecture.
