Du Hai Jun: Chronicles of the Floating City
The exhibition examines the aesthetic and social dimensions of the modern city, focusing on the intersections of architecture, memory, and collective identity. Through a dedicated pictorial research that blends figuration with urban structure, the works utilise oil on canvas and aluminium to investigate metropolitan phenomenology. The artist explores themes ranging from the high density of residential environments to the fragmentation of daily life, employing architectural grids as metaphors for individual existence.
Windows serve as a primary focal point in these compositions, acting as silent observers of social tensions and micro-narratives. The presentation reflects on the rapid pace of urbanisation and the evolving relationship between the individual, the community, and the built environment. Positioned in dialogue with the 2026 Art Biennale, the project provides contemporary perspectives on how urban spaces are perceived and inhabited in the 21st century.
