Fabrizio Plessi: l’Età dell’Oro

Ca' Pesaro presents Fabrizio Plessi's historical installations and new site-specific works.

Museo Correr, Piazza San Marco 52, Venice, Italy

To celebrate the 80 years of the artist Fabrizio Plessi, the windows of the Museo Correr, in Piazza San Marco, Venice, light up with golden waterfalls, accompanied by Michael Nyman’s music. Realised with the support of Dior, the installation “l’Età dell’Oro” (The Golden Age) is a homage to the city of Venice, inspired by the theme of gold, an ode to the splendor and magnificence of mythological and distant eras, but also to the Byzantine traces in the mosaics and architecture of Piazza San Marco.

The video installation brings together in a contemporary digital stream both primordial elements and technology, tradition and future. The liquid gold, almost tangible in its flow, loses it consistency and two key words in Venetian history appear: Pax Tibi (Peace to you) which is inscribed  on the Gospel that the lion – symbol of the Serenissima – holds at its paws.
