Fernando Garbellotto: Le reti della vita
The title of Fernando Garbellotto's exhibition: "Le reti della vita", means for the Venetian artist that "the network can now be considered the image that best represents and synthesizes these years of ours; the perception of the living world as a network of relationships".
Life, every form of life, is nothing but a system of networks within other systems of networks; at each scale of magnification the nodes of the network reveal themselves as other smaller networks, in a continuous becoming in time and without hierarchies. The advent of “network thinking” is conditioning the way of understanding and describing the long history of scientific knowledge that today is seen as a continuous network of knowledge relations that spontaneously self-produces. Network thinking has gained an increasingly central position also in deep ecology, understood as the study of the relationships that bind together all the inhabitants of the earth, whether they belong to the animal kingdom or to the plant kingdom. On this topic of deep ecology, central for all of us and for future generations, Fernando Garbellotto, quoting Bernard Patten, argues that ecology consists of networks: understanding ecosystems will be equivalent to understanding networks.
