Flora Yukhnovich: Barcarole

An exhibition of new paintings by the London-based artist

Victoria Miro Venice, San Marco 1994, Venice, Italy

Inspired by gondoliers’ traditional Venetian songs, “Barcarole” is the last solo exhibition by Flora Yukhnovich, marking the reopening of Victoria Miro gallery after the lockdown. The paintings on view were recently completed by the artist in London but inspired by her two-month period of residency in Venice.
Here, Yukhnovich studied the music of Vivaldi, Casanova’s memoirs and, most of all, the frescoes by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo at the Ca’ Rezzonico museum and the Chiesa Santa Maria della Visitazione. She combined these elements to further investigate notions of pace, movement and musicality.
