Flora Yukhnovich: Egg
Victoria Miro presents “Egg”, an exhibition by Flora Yukhnovich featuring new paintings in dialogue with a site-specific wall painting. The exhibition finds its genesis in storytelling—specifically myths, Biblical accounts, and fairy tales detailing fantastical conceptions and births. Yukhnovich examines how these narratives transform over time and the ways in which they attempt to explain life’s mysteries, often failing to account for the complexity of lived experience.
For the artist, the tension between concept and practice is mirrored in the act of painting, where the physicality of the mark holds inherent contradictions and uncertainties. Just as archetypal tales establish enduring frameworks that change with context, the paintings share nascent forms that shift registers from one work to another, similar to a musical canon. These pieces are installed against an activated ground of a wall painting created on site. The Venetian context, visible from the gallery, serves as a backdrop for the exhibition’s themes of flow, flux, circulation, and regeneration.
