Fucina degli Angeli. Peggy Guggenheim and Twentieth-Century Art Glass

The wide-ranging exhibition offers, through meticulous historical research, a fresh perspective on one of the most visionary chapters in post-war Murano glassmaking. The exhibition brings to light the wealth of experimentation, collaborations and relationships that left a lasting mark on the history of twentieth-century art.

Curated by Cristina Beltrami, the exhibition traces the creative adventure of Fucina degli Angeli, which originated from an idea conceived by Egidio Costantini in the mid-1950s. Peggy Guggenheim played a pivotal role in this story, supporting Costantini at crucial moments and contributing to the project’s international recognition. She not only acquired numerous pieces for her collection, but also introduced Costantini to leading figures in twentieth-century art and advised him on an exhibition strategy informed by her extensive experience as a gallerist and patron.
