Gabriele Basilico: Shangai

In 2010, Gabriele Basilico undertook a photographic project on Shanghai, commissioned for the Universal Expo. Basilico, famous for his meticulous approach to urban photography, documented the city’s transformation, focusing both on traditional suburban areas with shikumen houses and new, rapidly expanding areas such as Pujiang, Puxi and Pudong. In 2025, the project continues to be celebrated with a new exhibition entitled “Shanghai,” hosted by Michela Rizzo Gallery.

Curated by Filippo Maggia, this second exhibition offers a new view of Basilico’s work, continuing the reflection on the growth and transformation of the Chinese city through the photographer’s eye.
