Gayle Chong Kwan: Kew / Pamplemousse

A series of analog prints overlaps botanical elements from two different geographical contexts

Alberta Pane, Calle dei Guardiani, Dorsoduro 2403/h, 30123, Venice, Italy

The second online-only art project by Alberta Pane Gallery is the solo exhibition by Gayle Chong Kwan. For the occasion, the gallery dedicates a focus to the artist’s photographic series “Kew/Pamplemousse”, started in 2001. The images portray floral elements, overlapping pictures from the botanical gardens of Kew in the UK and Pamplemousse in Mauritius, which was once one of its colonies. The double-exposed analog prints create overlappings of forms, lights, and sensations from two different locations, removing their distance and inviting viewers to reflect in this particular time of isolation. The exhibition is available on the Alberta Pane gallery’s website.
