Genieve Figgis

Almine Rech presents  Genieve Figgis‘ solo exhibition, unveiling a new body of work at Palazzo Cavanis.

Figgis’ primary source of inspiration is the human life unfolding around her. She is deeply fascinated by people as portrayed on television, in vintage photographs, and in ancient paintings.

The Irish artist often draws inspiration from the themes of Edgar Allan Poe and Oscar Wilde, paying homage to Old Masters such as Goya. Her oil and acrylic paintings are vibrant, textured, and macabre, serving as satirical commentary on historical depictions of luxury and leisure. The compositions showcase sumptuous interiors, country homes, and figures engaged in old fashioned activities.
