Helen Broms Sandberg: The Seven Works of Mercy
Spazio Bruchium Fermentum, Calle del Forno, Castello 2092
The Seven Works of Mercy features a multi-channel video installation, sculptures, and photographs inspired by Caravaggio’s 1607 altarpiece of the same name, located in the Pio Monte della Misericordia, Naples.
Bringing together works created between 2018 and 2026 for the first time, the project invites reflection on the practice of mercy, examining how acts of charity are understood from a contemporary perspective.
The questions raised in sacred texts and Caravaggio’s altarpiece remain relevant, echoing the conflicts and suffering of the present. The messages embedded in the works of mercy allow for various interpretations, highlighting an enduring urgency and the universal need to care for others.
