Helmut Newton: Legacy
The retrospective includes some of the most iconic images revealing at the same time many less known aspects and shoots.
“Legacy” curated by Matthias Harder, Director of the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin, and Denis Curti is an exhibition to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the artist’s birth (Berlin, 1920 – Los Angeles, 2004), featuring 250 photographs, magazines, documents, and videos spanning Helmut Newton‘s entire career.
Alongside well-known images, the exhibition unveils previously unreleased photographs, highlighting lesser-known aspects, particularly focusing on unconventional fashion shoots. The inclusion of Polaroids, contact sheets, special publications, and archival materials offer insights into Newton’s creative process and provide a contextual understanding of his inspiration.
The exhibition has been exclusively displayed in Italy from spring 2023 to summer 2024, with stops in Milan at Palazzo Reale, Rome at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis, and concluding in Venice in spring 2024. This tour aims to strengthen cultural ties beyond Venice and engage with institutions and bodies across Italy.
