Henri Cartier-Bresson: Le Grand Jeu
Co-organised with the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and in partnership with the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson
The exhibition “Henri Cartier-Bresson: Le Grand Jeu”, hosted at Palazzo Grassi, Venice, presents a selection of photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908 – 2004), through the eyes of five different curators.
Photographer Annie Leibovitz, film director Wim Wenders, writer Javier Cercas, General Conservator and Director of the Prints and Photography Department of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Sylvie Aubenas, and collector François Pinault have chosen each one fifty images from the so-called “Master Collection”, according to their personal impression of the life and work of the artist. The original “Master Collection” features 385 images by Cartier-Bresson, selected personally by the photographer on the initiative of his two friends – the collectors Jean and Dominique de Menil – as the most representative of his visual research.
Conceived and coordinated by Matthieu Humery and realised in collaboration with the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, the exhibition will travel to Paris in 2021.
