The Dream Cathedral

What if your innermost confessions appeared in front of your eyes, as a renaissance painting that comes to life in a thousand year old church? This is the idea beyond the “Dream Cathedral,” an immersive, real-time generative AI experience created by the artists Huemin and Ganbrood specifically for the Biennale 2024.

Utilizing a state-of-the-art voice-to-image Artificial Intelligence, the exhibition invites visitors to confide their innermost thoughts that get revealed in real-time as digital paintings within an exquisite thousand-year-old church.

The project, first premiered during Biennale 2024, represents the first official collaboration between these two artists: as a founder of the open-source Stable Diffusion community Deforum, Huemin has long explored the relationship between humans, AI, and digital content. Bas Uterwijk, aka Ganbrood, has a background in special effects, 3D animation, video games, and photography.
