Intuition

Museo Fortuny, Campo San Beneto, 3780, San Marco, Venice, Italy

Axel Vervoordt and Daniela Ferretti present Intuition at Palazzo Fortuny at the 57th Venice Biennale.

The exhibition explores how intuition shaped art across geographies, cultures and generations bringing together works dealing with the concept of intuition, dreams, telepathy, paranormal fantasy, meditation, creative power, hypnosis and inspiration.

The earliest works on show reveal intuition’s importance in supporting artists to link different worlds. The intuitive experience giving birth to creative processes and leading to abstract art is analyzed through artworks of artist belonging to movements which defined in space and time the art of the 20th century such as Gutai, Cobra, Zero, Spazialismo and Fluxus.

A main role is occupied by Surrealism and by movements who, since the 1960s, looked at it as source of inspiration for its interest in dreams and in alternated states of mind. Intuition is a work-in-progress project which create a connection between contemporary art, historic works and Palazzo Fortuny, wondering about sources of art creation.

Extended hours: Sat, Sun, Mon until 7pm from 14 October.
