The American-Brazilian artist Juliana Cerqueira Leite presents her new solo exhibition “Convergence”, in the Venetian gallery Alma Zevi. During her Neapolitan residency of the last year, when she presented her impressive show “Orogenesis”, she created three plaster sculptures, named “Calcify”, “Contraction 2” and “Contraction 3”, that are now exhibited in Venice. These works, that are the final result of years of personal researches, express her vision of the human body, which is here manipulated and transformed by the artist and where the material itself is fundamental. In this show, visitors can see a fight between the plaster and the bodies, in a dialogue that is eternal: Cerqueira Leite explores the body of the past, of the future and of today, starting from the calchi of Pompei, from which she takes the neutral body posture. In this way, the artist reveals the connection, made of gestures and movements, between bodies that are distant in time.
