Juliana Cerqueira Leite: Solaris
San Marco 3357
, Salizzada San Samuele, Venice, Italy
Alma Zevi launches a new exhibition by the Brazilian born, American based artist Juliana Cerqueira Leite. The exhibition features a new body of sculptures the artist made during her four weeks residency in the city of Venice.
The artist is occupying the gallery space to house her new works, adapting their volumes and proportions to the exhibition room. Recalling Stanislaw Lem’s science fiction novel “Solaris“, adapted to the well-known film by Andrei Tarkovskij, the works run around the concept of returning past, the simulacrum and the formless. At the same time the sculptures relate to the female human body, exploring the contemporary feminist theory, as well as the history of feminist art.
