Leila Alaoui: Storie invisibili/Unseen stories.
On the occasion of the59th Venice Biennale, Fondaco dei Tedeschi hosts Leila Alaoui's solo exhibition.
During the 59th Venice Biennale, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi and Galleria Continua present “Storie invisibili/Unseen stories“, an exhibition of the Franco-Moroccan photographer and video artist Leila Alaoui, barbarously killed in 2016 in the terrorist attacks in Ouagadougou.
The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first one, “Les Marocains“, consists of a series of gigantographies, of great visual impact, some of which are unpublished and exposed to the Fondaco for the first time, that will permute the internal court of the building. The work is an experience of discovery of the artist’s roots, a mosaic of different traditions, cultures and aesthetics, revealing many customs that are gradually disappearing.
The second one, “Crossings“, features a set of videos and images and will be hosted on the fourth floor. The installation reconstructs the experience of migrants, returned to the viewer in a mix of real and fictional images. The artwork is Alaoui‘s way to shed a light on the collective trauma of migration and exploitation, as well as the problematic image of Europe as a utopian dreamland.
